About the event

When systems fail, communities too often look to political leaders who repeatedly fail them. This training retreat is a call to leaders who know we cannot solely rely on our political systems to save us. This training retreat includes journeys for those who often stand in the gap, who open their organizations’ doors, and the doors to their homes in times of chaos to ensure everyone’s safety.

This retreat includes journeys designed for leaders whether you lead a non-profit or a major corporation, whether you lead on your block or in your community, whether you lead in your place of worship or in your family.

“The Ark Effect”– Radical Leadership When Systems Fail, is our home-grown, trademarked, new kind of leadership training and development grounded in systems theory, chaos theory and survival theory. This is a two- part journey, with part-one held on the land at Restore Forward in Upstate, NY focused on rewilding for leaders, and part-two held in learning exchange with leaders in the Global South, to unpack the assumptions in preparedness, and its link to colonialism and western ideologies, recognizing the multiple ways of knowing, doing and planning for safety and sustainability. It includes grounding leaders in the stark reality of the society we live in, providing a realistic, yet a supportive, collective opportunity to make leaps toward more radical ways of community co-stewardship.

In addition to hard skills, leaders will hold counsel with the Earth itself and with the stars at night, tapping into a deeper knowledge to restore-forward a combination of their ancient survival skills and technologies, combining them with strategies created in the present and intended for the future. Whether it is the creation of sanctuary spaces, neighborhood safe-zones, subfloor networks in cities under siege, matriarchal villages, underground railroads, or the proverbial “ark” that ensure we survive coming socio-political chaos. Leaders will learn to read the land making the connection that our survival will depend on more than just the construct of this political system.

This experience aims to result in the following outcomes:

  1. Enhanced understanding of radical leadership and its application in various life spheres, including organizations, communities,  and families.
  2. Acquisition of skills to foster significant  organizational and societal change.
  3. Creation of a network of leaders committed to promoting a cohesive and loving future through radical leadership   practices.
  4. Gained strategies to advance communities' sense of ownership of their place so they participate in their own community safety  and development.
  5. Development of strategies to implement leadership as a survival mechanism and navigate and lead in environments lacking modern conveniences.
