About the event
Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) are dying at alarming rates due to the maternal mortality crisis, and these deaths only reflect the tip of the iceberg in terms of other forms of harm constituting obstetric violence. Black Women’s Blueprint will facilitate a journey of connection and relationship building with birth workers and midwives who are on the frontlines of birthwork and obstetric care in their communities. Through storytelling, healing exercises, and skills-building, midwives and birth workers will be better prepared to navigate the intersectionality of trauma, culture, and prenatal care while also prioritizing their own well-being through holistic modalities for addressing vicarious trauma. In this journey, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of trauma-informed care principles and their application in the context of midwifery and doula practices. Participants will also learn how to help initiate conversations with providers for patients who have experienced sexual trauma. Birthworkers and midwives will learn ways trauma can be addressed and healed outside of mainstream prenatal and postpartum care norms and values.
Limited space: 25 participants only.
